counseling

  • Life Transitions Counseling, also known as psychotherapy, is a form of therapy that helps individuals cope with and navigate the challenges associated with major life changes. Whether you are dealing with caregiving for children or parents, the loss of a loved one, or starting a new unfamiliar journey, counseling can help you process your emotions, develop coping strategies, and find a path towards healing.

  • Tired of feeling overwhelmed and anxious?

Anxiety is a human experience, a natural adaptive response to potential danger. However, it can also be debilitating and get in the way of our life and relationships. Sometimes we have an idea of what is making us anxious: a specific upcoming event, a recent situation, or a specific worry or concern. More often, it is hard to make sense of why we’re feeling the way we do.

    How anxiety counseling can help

Anxiety counseling is about more than thought patterns that need to be corrected. The underlying fears can run very deep, and at times they can become part of who we are. Marx Mental Health of Houston can help increase awareness and understanding of your own experience, including the identification of triggers and unconscious fears behind your reactions so that you can live life without this constant weight on your shoulders. • Feel like you are drowning?

Depression is more than just feeling sad, pessimistic, lonely, or simply “down”. Depression can sometimes make it hard for us to wake up in the morning and go about our day, difficult to engage with others, or able to experience joy and pleasure.

How therapy for depression can help

Therapy for depression can help you understand what is at the root of your own experience. By expanding our awareness and understanding, we can make sense of what depression symptoms are telling us. Marx Mental Health can help you make sense of your unique experience, understanding who you are, not only what you have.

Depression therapy and counseling can help you understand the personal meaning of your symptoms so that they can be worked through. This process can help you lighten the weight you’ve been carrying, feel better able to navigate life’s challenges, find acceptance and compassion for your own experience, and reconnect with your ability to enjoy life without feeling you’re just keeping your head above water. • You’ve been carrying this weight far too long.

Trauma can make us feel unsafe, out of control, or paralyzed, impacting how we relate to the world and ourselves. We feel trapped in our own bodies and thoughts, trying to do whatever it takes to soothe, numb, escape, or dissociate. Often, we don’t know why we’re feeling this way, leaving us more confused and helpless.

    How can trauma therapy help?

Trauma-focused therapy can help you recognize and understand these reactions and patterns. Sometimes it will be necessary to establish a sense of safety in your own body as you embark on the journey to explore and make sense of your emotional experience. This process will unfold at a gentle pace, with the support of a trusting and non-judgmental trauma therapist.

Treatment for Trauma can be challenging, but the relationship with your therapist will provide a safe space to explore difficult emotions, allowing you to find new ways of relating to yourself and others. We can’t change the past, but we can change the relationship we have with it.

 FAQs

  • It all begins with commitment and investment. These are the main ingredients for success. You must commit to your mental health and determine that you will overcome inevitable obstacles that will surface. You must also realize that getting psychotherapy is an investment in your future. You need to understand that you are not “paying for therapy” but investing in your future mental wellness. Therefore, it’s important to budget for therapy before beginning this journey.

Once you have determined that you will commit and invest, the next step is to schedule a free 15 conversation to see if my skills and experience are the right fit for you. From there, I will either give you referrals or send you a link to set up a private portal where you can complete paperwork, communicate with me and schedule future sessions.

  • 45-50-minute sessions are $150/session. If you are interested in pre-payment and booking 12 or more sessions, there will be a reduced rate per session.

  • The length of therapy depends on how many goals you want to accomplish. An average length of duration for psychotherapy is 12-20 weeks. To fully reach a major goal it usually takes a minimum of 20 sessions. People often work on a few goals, take a break and then may enter therapy again when ready to accomplish new goals.

  • I am passionate about providing reasonably priced mental health care and have great news! While I am not in-network with any providers (not cost effective doing part-time private practice), I understand that clients wish to use their our-of-network benefits for reimbursement.

Skip the hassle of filing your own claims. Let someone do it for you!

I have researched companies that advocate on the behalf of therapy seekers so that you have greater insight with what reimbursement is possible with your plan. If you have “POS”, “PPO” or “out-of-network” on your insurance card then you can get reimbursed for therapy.

    For example:

Session fee: $200 and your out-of-network deductible is $1,000. After about 5 sessions, you will start getting reimbursed between 50-65% making your net cost per session low. Want to see your rates? Check out some of the resources below. Insurance companies have come a long way in simplifying the reimbursement process so inquire there first. They may have simple phone apps now. Otherwise, check out a few resources below (not an exhaustive list) that provide filing for a small fee:
